As an abstract artist, painting for me is about creating surfaces that evoke an emotional response. My work is usually non-representational; with color and texture, I try to produce paintings that are both visually pleasing and stimulating, that keep the viewer coming back to notice new elements that may not have been seen initially.
I am inspired by color and like to experiment with brush techniques. I feel that my paintings, once begun, tend to paint themselves and the process, for me, is more about editing. I refine the shapes until I'm satisfied with the balance of positive and negative space and variations in texture and color. |
